If you have been feeling a little low lately, you are not alone. I have noticed a trend in the collective, where so many people are feeling subtle or extreme shifts in their normal state of being.
They are possibly feeling a bit more overwhelmed, sad, helpless, exhausted, confused, and so much more. And this all makes sense, because so much has been happening in the world, and just like collective consciousness is a thing, so is collective grief.
So, how are you taking care of yourself during these times?
Here are a few simple self-care tips that can drastically shift your mood/ emotional well-being.
Social Detox:🤳
I know it is important to some to stay on social media and the internet to stay connected, as well as to keep up with the news and happenings in the world. But many are unaware of how harmful it can be to your psyche to have so much access to all of this information. It can truly shake up the nervous system.
One second you are scrolling and smiling at a beautiful baby or pet video, then next you see something traumatic.
And the cycle continues the more you engage.
Limiting your time on social media can help your nervous system in the long run.
This detox can be cold turkey (ex. Deactivating social completely for some time), or you can just slowly cut back on your screen time
Touch Some Grass:🌳
Literally.
You can do this any time of day for as long as you desire. Earthing/grounding (standing barefoot on the earth) helps improve sleep, reduce stress, lowering cortisol, and more.
Get in the Sun Daily:☀️
Whether you just sit outside for a few minutes or take a nice long walk on sunny days, getting sunlight can help reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and help boost your mood, among many other things.
Act on your highest point of excitement as often as you can:💃🏽
And I mean this in the most uncomplicated way.
You don’t need to “know what your purpose in life is” to achieve this. Just, at any given moment, take a second to feel what your body wants.
What would bring you joy in that moment?
Is it something you can actually do? Then do it.
For example, you are craving a mid-day walk?
Take it
On your walk, you feel the urge to skip and prance? Do it!
You want to lay in the grass and bask in the sun? Why not!
You want to try something new but are a little nervous to make the leap?
MAKE IT!
If this world is teaching us anything, it is that time is fleeting. We never know what tomorrow is going to bring us. All we have in each moment ARE THOSE MOMENTS!
So please, take care of yourself.
Do what makes you happy. And know, with all that is currently happening in this world, YOU matter.
YOUR FEELINGS are valid.
Your struggles are valid.
And you are allowed to experience joy and happiness even in these hard times without the need to feel guilty about it.
